About
Posting Information at the Library
The Putnam County Library System has a limited amount of bulletin board space available for flyers, notices, and printed information, such as brochures, that may be of interest to the community. Priority will be given to local not-for-profit groups that provide community services and events of educational, cultural, intellectual or recreational value and interest. The library makes the determination of what materials can be posted and made available pursuant to the following policies:
- Display space is available for community organizations and local events that further the role of the library as the central source for civic, cultural, intellectual, educational, and recreational information.
- Posters and flyers may be displayed on the bulletin boards made available for this purpose.
- Library and library affiliated programs shall have the first priority for any bulletin board space.
- Items may be displayed for a maximum of one month. Library staff will remove items that have expired or that have been posted for one month. Items removed will be discarded. Library staff cannot return posters and flyers that have been displayed.
- All items are subject to the approval of the library director or a designee of the director.
- Items that may be distributed include flyers, brochures, leaflets and pamphlets that provide information about non-profit civic, educational, cultural, intellectual, or recreational organizations and events.
- Bulletin boards may not be used for personal or commercial advertisements. No materials or notices advertising: commercial events, garage-type or other sale event signs, or signs promoting personal services for which fees are charged, or signs soliciting donation, etc., may be posted.
- Materials that promote programs or projects of a personal or commercial nature may not be distributed in the library.
- Items which promote a particular political, partisan, religious, or social point of view will not be posted. Literature related to political campaigns, controversial matters or religious events will not be posted.
- Items left or posted without approval will be removed and discarded.
- Due to a limitation of space, notice size (physical dimensions) will be restricted to no larger than 11” x 17”.
- The bulletin board is located in a public space, so postings must be appropriate for viewing by all ages. No nudity or profanity is allowed.
- The library cannot assume responsibility for the preservation, protection, or possible damage or theft of any item displayed on or near the bulletin boards.
- All materials posted must comply with this policy, including but not limited to any document that is posted without approval.
- Posting of materials does not indicate the library’s endorsement of the issues or events promoted by the posted materials.
- The library reserves the right to remove or deny any postings that do not follow this policy, including but not limited to any document posted without approval.
- Anyone may appeal a disapproval or condition of approval of a posting to the Library Board of Trustees. The decision of the Library Board of Trustees is final.
