Tennessee Room

The Putnam County Library provides reference materials for library use to those researching Tennessee genealogy and/or history in our Tennessee Room. This includes the following:

  1. Putnam County genealogy and history
  2. Upper Cumberland genealogy and history
  3. Tennessee genealogy and history
  4. Border states genealogy and history

The Tennessee Room includes histories of families of the Upper Cumberland region. These can be found in the Family Files, which are bound or loose volumes of family data sheets and ancestry charts. We also have a Family History Collection that is comprised of bound volumes of family histories that provide references to the resources used.

Journals
The library also retains historical and genealogical journals pertaining to the overall state and the Upper Cumberland area.

The main library in Cookeville is the only site in the Putnam County Library System that has a collection of books and microforms relating to genealogical research. However, items about state and local history, culture and writers may be found at the branch locations.

The library welcomes gifts and donations; however, only those items that meet the purpose and role of the collection will be added to the Tennessee Room.
