The Regional eBook and Audiobook Download System (R.E.A.D.S) is a free online service available to members of the Putnam County Library System. You will need your Putnam County Library card and a device with internet access. Due to the vast array of different audio and e-book devices on the market, there may be various steps required to load your selection onto your personal device. Luckily, the READS site provides a Quick Start Guide, an in depth FAQ, device compatibility lists, and video tutorials. All of these helpful links can be found on the R.E.A.D.S.
R.E.A.D.S. utilizes a unique form of file encoding that helps to simultaneously protect the authors’ copyrights while still allowing multiple users to experience and enjoy their books. Each title has a certain number of Available “copies” that can be downloaded. When a user selects a copy, that file will be accessible for up to two weeks. On the items due date, it will automatically be returned for the next user to enjoy, much like the way a traditional library operates. Returns are handled automatically by your device, so there are no late fees.
If an item you are interested in has all available copies checked out, you may place it on hold. You will be notified by e-mail as soon as it is available. You can have up to 15 items checked out at any time and an additional 15 items on your Hold queue.
